Gritty
McDuff's
Portland
Brew
Pub
When
Gritty's
Portland
Brew
Pub
opened
in
1988
it
became
Maine's
first
brew
pub
since
prohibition
and
a
leader
in
the
state's
microbrew
revolution.
Since
then,
locals
of
every
stripe
and
visitors
from
around
the
world
have
been
enjoying
fine,
small-batch
ales
brewed
on-premise,
great
pub
fare
and
a
real
old
world
pub
atmosphere.
Gritty's
Portland
Brew
Pub
is
the
perfect
place
to
experience
the
ambience
of
Portland's
Old
Port.
Our
Fore
Street
location
is
right
in
the
heart
of
the
historic
district.
Pull
up
a
chair
at
our
copper-topped
bar,
strike
up
a
conversation
at
our
beer
hall
style
tables,
or
take
in
street
life
on
the
cobblestones
of
Wharf
Street
from
our
basement
Brewery
Bar
patio.We're
open
everyday
and
you're
always
welcome.
Gritty's
has
become
a
Maine
institution,
garnering
many
awards
for
Best
Bar,
Best
Brew
Pub
and
Best
Beer.
Stop
in,
have
a
pint
and
see
where
the
legend
began.
Cheers!

Portland
Pub
Brewery
Gritty's
first
brewery
was
designed
and
manufactured
in
1988
by
Peter
Austin
&
Partners
in
Ringwood,
Hampshire,
England.
All
subsequent
renovations
and
expansions
of
our
brewery
have
remained
true
to
the
original,
classic
style
of
the
English
pub
brewery.
The
copper-domed,
brick
faced
brew
kettle
is
the
showpiece
of
the
brewery
and
sits
in
a
tiled
room
behind
large
viewing
windows
in
our
Wharf
Street
basement
brewery
bar.
The
pub
brewery
produces
our
five
classic
ales
(Sebago
Light,
Portland
Headlight
Pale
Ale,
McDuff's
Best
Bitter,
Best
Brown
Ale,
Black
Fly
Stout)
and
many
seasonal
ales
depending
on
the
time
of
year.
From
its
inception,
our
brewery
has
been
producing
award-winning
ales,
and
production
has
grown
at
a
rate
of
thirty
percent
per
year.
We
use
only
the
finest
hops,
English
barley
malt,
and
a
special
English
ale
yeast
and
water
to
produce
hand-crafted
ales
that
are
all-natural
and
always
fresh.
