Have you ever noticed the hundreds of ceramic mugs hanging above or behind our bars in each of our three pubs? Those mugs belong to Gritty's Mug Club. Each member pays an annual $75 membership fee. In return they get to join our exclusive Mug Club.
Benefits include:
  • Each Mug Club Member gets their own ceramic mug. The mugs are individually numbered and we hang it above the bar. Only the Mug Club member gets to use their mug. It's always here waiting for them.
  • The mugs hold 21 ounces of our fine ale. If a mug club member uses their mug, they pay the same price for those 21 oz's of beer as a 16 oz pint of beer. So more beer for the same price! (Unless it's Mug Club night.)
  • Each Gritty's Pub offers two nights a week that are Mug Club Nights. On these special evenings, Mug Club members currently only pay $1 for each mug of ale they buy. Such a deal! Mug Club nights vary from pub to pub, so check with your bartender to find out when it's Mug Club night at the location where you join.
  • Use of a VIP Mug. If you find yourself in a Gritty's other than the one where you joined the Mug Club, don't worry, you can still relax and have a beer! Just show the bartender or wait person your Mug Club Card and you'll be served beer in a VIP Mug. You get all the benefits of membership no mater what Gritty's you're in.
  • Earn points for discounts on food, ale and merchandise. Every time you come in to Gritty's present your Mug Club Card and you'll earn points that can be redeemed for discounts on food, ale and merchandise.
  • You also get a special Gritty's Mug Club member's ball cap, a membership card and enrolled to get our monthly e-letter which keeps you up-to-date on all Gritty's events.

If joining Gritty's Mug Club sounds interesting, just ask the bartender for a Mug Club Application on your next visit. Openings in the club are rare, but they do happen. We'll take your application and put it on file. When we have an opening, we'll contact you.

New Small Batch Brew - Rye PA
Brewer Ben Low’s latest small batch creation is Rye PA, a strong, deep amber ale made with 12% rye malt for a truly unique flavor. Here’s what Ben has to say about it:
“It’s got about 12% Rye Malt, which should give a really distinctive flavor. I’m expecting some pepper-like spiciness. It’s a pretty strong beer, finishing up somewhere around 6.3% ABV. It’s also a fairly hoppy beer, with a lot more late-addition aroma hops than we usually use. The aroma hops are Cascade and Saaz (the Cascade is to give it some American IPA flavor, the Saaz to complement the spiciness of the rye). It will also be dry-hopped in the conditioning tank with Cascade and Saaz.”

Among the highlights were local chef, Sam Hayward of Fore Street and Gritty McDuff’s Best Brown Ale. “It’s nice to see Portland receive recognition for its rich culinary community,” said Mayor Ed Suslovic. “Perhaps one of Maine and Portland’s best kept secrets is the availability of fresh, locally-grown produce and it was good to see that the prevalence of farmers’ markets in the area did not go unnoticed by Saveur,” said Suslovic. Published by the Bonnier Corp., Saveur, a food and wine magazine, each year produces a top-100 magazine.
