Gritty McDuff 's Real Ales
Ever since we opened our first brewery in Portland, Maine on December 21, 1988, native Mainers and visitors from around the world have enjoyed our fresh, handcrafted, traditional ales that never travel more than thirty feet from the brewery to your glass. We brew in the traditional English fashion, using only barley, wheat, hops and pure water. Our yeast culture is a centuries-old strain developed by monks in the north of England. Gritty's ales are brewed in accordance with ancient purity laws - no additives or preservatives!

Original Pub Style

A Classic Maine Pale Ale - Now in 6-Packs!

Gritty McDuff's Brewing Company is pleased to announce the release of Gritty's Original Pub Style, a classic pale ale from Maine's original brew pub.

Original Pub Style harkens back to the very first brews Gritty's produced at our Portland Brew Pub back in 1988. "We wanted to make a beer that captures what made people fall in love with craft brewing in the first place; a fresh, classic pale ale with plenty of hop character." says Brewmaster Ed Stebbins. "This is the kind of beer that really started the whole Maine brewing revolution."

Original Pub Style is a light copper-colored medium-bodied with a nice dry bite at the finish. A subtle combination of Cascade and Willamette hops give this ale a fine floral aroma and a slightly fruity aftertaste. The taste captures the freshness of a hand-crafted brew pub ale that goes right from the conditioning tank to your glass! Original Pub Style is a year-round release available in six and twelve packs all over the great state of Maine, and on draft at Gritty's Portland and Freeport brew pubs.

McDuff's Best Bitter
A true English classic. Copper-hued and well-balanced. We use rare East Kent hop flowers in the brewing of this ale. Served both naturally carbonated, and hand-drawn through our beer engines, or cold-filtered. Available in 12 oz bottles in six and twelve packs.

Black Fly Stout
A dry, all-malt stout balanced with Oregon Willamette and Yakima Clusters hops. We use six different grains in the brewing of this dark masterpiece and serve it the right way in both of our pubs - with nitrogen pressure! The finest stout west of Galway Bay. Now available in 6 packs.

Sebago Light Ale
A low-alcohol, full-flavored light ale. Golden-hued and dry on the finish. Sure to please everyone! Served cold and carbonated in our pubs.

Halloween Ale
Halloween Ale started out as a small batch, cask-conditioned seasonal in our Portland Brew pub back in 1990. The response was overwhelming and production has increased every year since. With the opening of our Freeport brew pub in 1995, we started brewing Halloween Ale in both cask-conditioned and draft styles, as well as packaging the ale in mini-kegs, 22 oz bottles and kegs for off-premise and retail distribution. In 2002 we revamped the logo and released Halloween Ale in six-packs all over the great state of Maine

Halloween Ale is rich, full-bodied E.S.B. that's just a bit sweet and toasty on the palate, with a medium-dry and slightly floral finish.

Christmas Ale
A beer you can really believe in!

Our Christmas Ale is a robust E.S.B. (Extra Special Bitter.) This brew has a lovely, dark red/amber color and a rich, full-bodied, malty taste with a slightly roasted undertone. We brew our Christmas Ale to an original gravity of 1064 (about 6.2% alcohol by volume) using only the finest English Pale and Crystal Malts with a touch of Roasted Barley as well. A blend of Clusters, Styrian Goldings, Saaz and Yakima Goldings leaf hops round out this hearty brew. Gritty's Christmas Ale has no additives, fruits or spices. It's just a good honest ale, perfect for the season. And to top it all off, it's already gift-wrapped! (Available on draft, in 22 oz bottles and 5 liter Mini-kegs from November through January)

Vacationland Summer Ale
VSA is an Extra Special golden ale that’s light in color but full-bodied, with a snappy hop finish. A bit of extra time in the conditioning tank rounds out and mellows the ale.

Vacationland Summer Ale will be available this summer in a fun, new six-pack that will put you in mind of everything that’s great about our state in the summertime. Also look for VLSA at our Portland and Freeport Brew Pubs, as well as featured draft accounts throughout Maine.

Scottish Ale
Gritty McDuff 's Scottish Ale is our interpretation of the robust brews native to Scotland. Generous quantities of Pale malt along with Munich and Caramalts give this ale a deep and complex profile. Scottish Ale is just a shade darker than our Bitter, with a rich, slightly sweet first impression on the palate that rounds out to a satisfying maltiness and a medium-dry hop finish. At 6.3% ABV itıs hearty but not overwhelming. Sure to please the Braveheart in all of us! (Available on draft, in 22 oz bottles and 5 liter Mini-kegs from Januray through April. Kilt sold separately.)
